Concrete Contractor Maraetai
Concrete Contractor for Maraetai's Beachside Baches and Steep Sections
Auckland Pathways is the concrete contractor Maraetai owners call for steps, paths, driveways and retaining on beachside sections. This village sits at the end of the road with older baches, steep land and narrow access, so concrete jobs here are planned around the site and the shoreline.

Old Baches, Tight Sections and Awkward Access in Maraetai
Maraetai is a small beach village on the Pohutukawa Coast, set along a sheltered bay with its wharf and beach at the centre. Many of the homes began as holiday baches, built on small, uneven sections, and many have since become permanent homes or been rebuilt. Streets are narrow, many sections are steep and access can be difficult, which suits neither a big truck nor a rushed job.
Because of that, planning is where the job is won or lost. We look at the route a concrete truck can take, whether a pump is required and whether materials and equipment will have to be carried by hand. We tell you at the quote stage what the access will mean for cost and time, and we use smaller machines and barrow crews where a full-size truck cannot get close.
Older baches often have outdoor surfaces made over time and not always to a plan: concrete steps that have shifted, paths that have cracked, and slabs that sit at odd levels. Before we replace anything, we work out what is holding it up and what is moving beneath it. In many cases the fault is slope movement or drainage, not the concrete itself, so we deal with the cause as well as the surface.
Stairs and paths are among the most common jobs here, because so many houses are built above the road or the beach. We build concrete steps with consistent rise and run, solid footings and a non-slip finish, and we think carefully about handrail positions so that the structure is safe as well as strong.
Sloping Ground, Clay Banks and Retaining by the Beach
Much of Maraetai is built on sloping land, with clay banks above and below many properties. Clay holds water and can slide when it becomes saturated, so retaining and drainage are central to almost every concrete project in this area. A patio or driveway dug into a bank needs a wall behind it that is built to cope with the water and soil it will hold.
We build retaining walls and concrete together so that each does its job. The footing, the wall and the drainage behind it are designed as a system, with free-draining backfill and outlets to take water away. Where a wall or bank already shows signs of movement, such as leaning, cracks or slumping, we tell you honestly what we see and what the options are before any concrete is poured against it.
Footings for decks, pole houses and outdoor structures are another regular request, since so many sections need level space created on a slope. The footing size and depth depends on the load, the ground and the slope, and we work with engineers and builders where plans require it, so your structure has a stable foundation.
The coastal setting adds salt exposure and strong winds. We use reinforcing and concrete suited to the environment and recommend sealing surfaces that are exposed to spray. We also watch the weather on pour days, as wind can dry out fresh concrete quickly, and we are happy to postpone if the conditions are against us.

Frequently Asked Questions
Got Any Questions? Read Our FAQ
Thinking about concrete work at a Maraetai property? These are the questions we hear most from Maraetai homeowners, answered plainly.
If your question is specific to your section, your access or your budget, contact us and one of our team will talk it through with you.
Can you repair a damaged retaining wall in Maraetai?
Often yes, but it depends on why it is failing. We check the wall, the drainage and the ground behind it and tell you whether repair or rebuild is the better fix.
Can you build concrete steps on a steep section?
Yes. We form steps with consistent rise and run, solid footings and a non-slip finish, and we plan the layout to suit the slope and any handrail.
Do you pour footings for a deck or pole house?
Yes. We size and place footings to suit the loads, the slope and the soil, and we work to engineer or builder plans where they apply.
What if a concrete truck cannot reach my property?
We use a pump, smaller machines or hand barrowing to reach the work area, and we explain the cost and time impact at the quote stage.
Can you work on a bach with limited space and no flat ground?
Yes. We can create level areas using excavation, retaining and concrete, and we plan the work around what the site will allow.

We are so glad we found Ash from Auckland Pathways for our dig, level, and pile hole drill domestic job. His skill and accuracy as an operator was outstanding in a very limited and difficult space. The job turned out brilliantly. More than that I was most impressed by his attitude, communication and care in all that he did. From the first contact Ash was helpful, clear and informative. He turned up on time as promised and respected the surrounding properties so well (very important to us as we were accessing our site dig through our neighbour’s property. Ash is a great guy and I would use him again anytime I needed earthworks done. I highly recommend him - especially when you want a precise, quality job done by someone with an attitude and values that match his skill. I wish him well with his business!Posted on Google![]()

Can not recommend highly enough. We had Ash come out and excavate an area in our front yard (including a large stump) to make more useable space, and prepare for rebuilding our retaining. Right from the first visit Ash was a consummate professional, offered his opinion on how best to deal with the job and once he got started his experience shone. Ash is an operator with exceptional skill. His grading and levelling work is as good as it gets and his efficiency in the machine is a pleasure to witness. If you are looking for a team that knows what they are doing and get it done right, look no further.Posted on Google![]()

Ash and his team came out to my residential driveway which was 25 metres and sorted the whole thing for me and was very prompt with his contact and service. Very happy with the service would 5/5 recommend to anyone thinking of doing a renovation or repair asphalt or concrete.
